1471 marca um dos grandes pontos de viragem da história portuguesa no mundo. É o início confirmado de uma época áurea para Portugal, e, paradoxalmente, um dos períodos menos conhecidos e discutidos da nossa história. Como era viver em Portugal nessa época? Como seria a vida de um simples homem-de-armas português, integrado nas expedições d’O Africano? Como falaria, como se vestiria, o que comeria, enfim, como viveria, dentro e fora do campo de batalha? É isso que quero explorar com este blog e com actividades de recriação, e ajudar a que outros explorem também.

The year Afonso V of Portugal invaded Morocco and conquered the cities of Arzila and Tangiers. The year Portuguese explorers discover the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, the year Portuguese explorers João de Santarém and Pedro Escobar cross the Equator for the first time.
1471 is one of the major turning points in Portuguese History. It is the confirmed beginning to a Portuguese golden age, and, paradoxically, one of the least known and least discussed periods of our history. What was it like, living in Portugal at the time? What was the life of a simple Portuguese man-of-arms, a soldier in the armies of The African, like? How did he talk, dress, eat? That is to say, how did he live, in the battlefield and outside of it? That is what I want to explore with this blog and my reenactment activities, and help others explore it as well.
